While having breakfast this early morning, I can’t help but noticed this petite young lady carrying an over sized handbag. When I say over sized I mean really over sized as in the bag equals a quarter of her whole female form! Makes me wonder what she hides in there? In fact, the question I have in my mind is why does most ladies like to carry big bags? Is it a trend or is it just a habit? Maybe they like to carry their whole makeup and 'grandmother' possessions in there?

Finally checked out our new office cum service centre. Hopefully and if possible, to start another outlet there!? Twice the size larger than our current retail outlet here in Giant Kelana, it sure looked impressive! Surrounded by many lifestyle cafes, this place might be ‘dangerous’ to us! To make matter worst, this place has got one of the biggest and cleanest ‘mamak’ restaurant around and it is 24 hours too! So are we going to confirm this as our new place? It took me half day and a box of cheese macaronis to complete the floor plan. I was satisfied with the layout at the moment but last minute changes is possible knowing my partner is ever fickle minded about the lightings, colour schemes, concept…, image???…..you know how fussy women can be?

'Cucuk sanggul' seems to rule the day as I am called to create an urgent request by a lady customer. She was thankful she doesn’t have to drive all the way to Melaka for it. Surprisingly, instead of just getting one piece, she bought two. She sure made me proud of my creations as it is going to Australia for a wedding functions and I bet many guests will envy her unique cucuk sanggul as it is customised and not readily available in the market.

Of late, we have this new ‘trading neighbour’ opposite our shop who sells many varieties of toys but interestingly….3 bright yellow colour toy chicken is the main star! Because…. without fail, it attracts passer-by to squeeze squeeze it ……. So shiok! And the poor chicken can produce sympathetic sound like being slaughtered!! I m serious, it does sound very real and never fails to make us laugh occasionally. At least I can confirm that everyone squeeze differently! Some fast squeezer, some slow ones and we even have those teasing ones! Even the small kiddos are not spared as they happily do their squeezing! Well…it does bring some live back to the solemn surrounding of Giant…. Now, we are waiting for our silver smith who’supposed to hand carry a special order from a VIP customer. The result? Will be revealed tomorrow!!!

To move or not to move!?

First half of the day is wasted without any productivity and my partner is having a “field time” searching property website and scouting for our new showroom / office in KL. She even bang the phones several time with frustrations dealing with several weird property agents! One agent even sounded so snob thus making me wonder why she bother to be an agent if she is not even service oriented at all but instead talking with her mouth full of food. How disgusting! No wonder my poor partner gives up and finally ends her searching. The ideal & prestigious locations are so bloody expensive and our budget is peanuts. Maybe we should save up and hope to buy our own property later?

Ahhh..now on my latest Tepak Sireh? Well, here it is … all plated and shining gold. Need minor touch up to complete my latest baby. Soon it will be displayed for sale and waiting for new customers who knows how to appreciate hand crafted work.

Even the handbag holder and the bunga raya cuff link came back perfectly from the factory and ready for delivery. Perfectly rhodium plated and waiting now for packing ans shipped out to its final destination~!

Ahhaa..I dunno what got into me today , I spotaneously made a stop at a durian stall and bought 3 packets of nice juicy durians! I mean the mother of all species! Now we are both feeling so lethargic warm after gulping all of them within a record time of less than 30 minute! If there is a bed here now, I am sure someone would already be in dreamland with nice musical sound …zzzzzzzzz And how clever she is blaming it on the durians!

Enough said, it is time for me to start on some hairclips in preparation for the next promo-event. Errr boss… you want long long or short short ones?

Hindi songs loud and clear!

Blasting hindi song right outside our shop! The Pakistani is either bored to death or is he trying to mark his territory here in Giant kelana! What is happening? It makes me always ask the same question over and overf again: Why are they here and who gives them the right to trade here in our country? As local business people, it is so hard to get a trading licence but for this aliens, they seem to have no difficulties in obtaining them. Why I ask? Will our country becoming a immigrant heaven soon?

Finished the cuff link as requested yesterday. Not much was done since I do not have much items to work on. Most of all, I was not in the right mind nor mood. Even the aircond here is getting colder by the hour!

Funny thing about being here in the shop is when it comes to food for lunch or dinner … we are always lost!Kentucky Fried Chicks, Burger or pizza? Ouch! With a brewing ulcer inside and on my lips, this is not going to be too good! But do we have much choice? I guess not so KFC it is. And desert would be .... oral aid lotion!

And earthquake? What’s this I heard? Nope …. Nothing was felt here at all. At least not here in Giant Kelana. The only earthquake we got must be the bucket of KFC for lunch! And the soon to be huge ulcer under constrution inside and on my upper lips! Ouch!

A quiet day project!

Today has been a terribly quiet day for us in the shop. Guess everyone is busy trying to settle down right after the recent long holidays. Or has everyone gone ‘broke’ after spending so much? The evening rain is no help either. So quiet ... so boring ...!!!

With my soldering iron and a few of our pewter products, time is not wasted as I start on another new project – ladies handbag holder! I thought it would only be just a few but ended up with more than 10 units! With enough experience and the long boring day, I guess I just lost track of the number of pieces I had used for this project. As always, the finished product can only be appreciated once I get them plated. Gold? Rhodium?

Having completed my handbag holders, I get a request for more cuff links. And so be it …..heat up the iron and start the ‘link’ going!!! Errr .... how many do you want ...?

The Art Of Making Tepak Sireh .... well ... my style!

This particular ornament has never failed to impress me. So, I took the challenge to produce my own tepak sireh in my own little corner of the shop! Tepak sireh created by me must be different from the conventional design in the market. Starting from the first one that has a design of Selangor State crest in 2 tone of Gold and Rhodium (Picture on left), I felt very proud that a Malay customer compliments my art of work and willing to pay a handsome fees for it..
The second tepak sireh was accidently design from the existing Coasters series at the spur of the moment. I created it with lots of passion and hard effort. It was very neat, and with many fine details. After completing it, it was on display in front of my shop and within 3 weeks it was purchased by a corporate company. However, because of my busy schedule doing promotion outside of the shop, I forgotten to snap a picture of it and now that particular tepak sireh is proudly in the hand of a local VIP.
Now, for the third tepak sireh which is under plating process, again I used my spontaneous creativity to use 'redundant' products and carefully combine them into the main container, 5 pieces of cannister, the 3 pieces of sireh leaves and the kacip (nut-cracker). For this design, I have decided to give the top edges some fittings, to enhance the corners a bit. A lot of attention is given to the cannister of 5 pieces. The most difficult part must be getting them round in shape. No doubt the top cover is also not a breeze to make, but I managed to design it without much difficulties, from experience and creativity ideas!

Here you see two pictures of this tepak sireh, before the plating process. I have decided to complete this set with gold plating. After this plating process, I might decide to give it a little rustic finishing, especially to the 4 top corners and the top cannister cover.

Rest assured, once the plating is completed, you will see it here in my blog. For now, the next tepak sireh? What will my design be?

VIP Corporate Order

Recently, a high ranking Malaysian navy officer based in France ordered 60 pieces of customized ladies handbag holder and 30 sets of men's cuff link made from pewter. The motives is of our national flower, the bunga raya (Hibiscus). This item will be presented as gifts to France VIP and we are proud to be associated with this special project.

The cuff link comes in two parts, namely the base and the mini bunga raya. The bunga raya piece being small in size, is very delicate and have to be carefully soldered on to the base. Precise heat control is needed here and only the skilled craftmen can do it perfectly!

As for the ladies handbag, these takes up more time to prepare and have them ready. Unlike the cuff link, it comes in three parts, the hanger, the bottom base and the large sized bunga raya (hibiscus flower). All three parts have to be carefully soldered on to make one complete piece.

Here you see the pictures of these two almost completed project awaiting the final stage, which is plating them to a high standard rhodium finishing.

Note: Pictures taken with my Blackberry Storm mobile phone.
